Eric and I have an announcement!
For the past few weeks, we’ve put wedding planning on hold (except for the engagement outing) because … we’ve been looking at houses!
And we found one!
Never a couple to pass on $8,000, we started looking as soon as we knew we’d be ok financially to do so. We had discussed renting for awhile, but we just felt that if we’re going to be paying to live somewhere, we should be paying our own mortgage, not someone else’s. And sorry Mom and Dad, but it’s time. It’s a super cute bi-level in a great neighborhood in Anderson. 3 bed, 2 bath, you know the deal. Pretty awesome starter home. Here’s a virtual tour (minus a few bedrooms, a bath, and the family room that walks out to the deck). Sorry it’s incomplete, my camera’s battery died a quick, painless death.
So despite the desperate need of COLOR and style, it’s a great house with minimal work that needs to be done. The rest is only what my designer brain can dream up. Trust me, the construction and design projects this summer will be so. much. fun. Volunteers?
There may even be a google document that lists room by room what I want to do … may be.
We close on May 26th!!!

I see from the little stats tracker on the blog dashboard that a lot of people visited the last few days … I know what that means … Time to start regularly updating this thing so our guests aren’t bored!
Eric and I spent the weekend mostly in the car.
Yes, in the car. On Friday night Eric, his brother Chris and his date Meredith, and I drove to Knoxville, “rested” in maybe the grossest hotel room ever, then finished our way to Atlanta for Kristina and Matt’s wedding. It was a beautiful wedding and I know I had a lot of fun, especially in all the dancing! Lyn took some great pictures of all of us, but I don’t have all of my fab soon-to-be-mother-in-law’s pictures yet, so here’s a sneak peek from the beginning of the night:
These were all before the ceremony … tomorrow brings the fun pictures.
And yes, we drove home on Sunday. Talk about dedicated employees!!!

Planning a wedding is a lot of work, but it’s a fun project to take on. I mean, when else can you sit and ponder flower details and color palettes and shoes and everything frivolous and not feel guilty about it?
As a (relatively) newly engaged girl, I spend a fair amount of time perusing wedding blogs that may or may not pop up new posts, pictures, and creative goodness in my google reader all day long. And while this is great for coming up with ideas for planning the look and feel and details of the wedding, there is a lack of focus on what comes after the wedding.
Like, you know, the marriage?
Why is that? Besides the obvious fact that weddings are usually pretty and have a lot of visual interest to catch blog readers, is it just not that interesting? One site that is good about discussing the life-after-wedding is A Practical Wedding. Not only is it funny, but it really helps put everything into perspective. Sure you’re going to have this great party, but the real point of the day is to bring the bride and groom together and create a new family.
So how does one plan a life with someone when for 20-or-so years they planned life for themselves? What are the steps to creating a partnership that lasts a lifetime?
I don’t really know where I’m going with this, and I hope this doesn’t sound negative or anything like that because I am truly happy to be going through this with Eric and I think our life together will be great once we figure out what it’s going to be. I just wanted to ramble on since most of the big-picture wedding decisions have been made (location? check. bridal party? check. dress? check. photographer? check. florist? check. dj? check.) and now my wedding-crazed brain gets a little reprieve.
Anyone want to share helpful hints? No? Ok, next time will have pictures, I promise …
